Its a long way home…
March 14th, 2007 | by lissie |You might need to zone the magnification on this - but the sign says that Wellington is only 200km further from Toowoomba than Darwin is! Where on earth is Toowoomba one might ask - its about 1hr drive inland from Brisbane. We were filling in time while we sort out the vehicle. Passed its mechanical inspection with flying colours - but we have no record books for it - this is a bit of a deal with diesel vehicles as stuff (technical term) has to be done to it every 5000km or so. So we are currently getting fluids changed, new brake pads, radiator flushed and other techie stuff happening. The air/con is apparently now working well. This was statement made on Monday when the temperature in Brisbane hit 37C - hottest temp since 1960 something, so the air/con is good!
It was to be fair bloody hot - even at 10am it felt hot - it was apparently 30C then! The weather report on Monday
however said - I quote “tomorrow will be a cool 28C” - a rather hilarious statement - especially as when tomorrow came it did feel cool at 28C! Its a little bit of a worry we may have to head south real fast so we can handle the cool Tasmanian temperatures.
We went back to our favourite camping super-store today and bought up big. In fact one more item and we wouldn’t have been able to fit the resulting pile of essentials : tent, esky, bed, stove, pots, table, chairs, plastic boxes (large), shovel, electric thingy to inflate camp bed, in the back of the little rented Hyundai Getz (small 2 door car)! It was even more fun fitting them into our rapidly too small room in the hostel!
Tomorrow we are off to pick up the landcruiser - its actually down the Gold Coast - so we have returned the rental car, will go down to the coast by train and return with the truck - its bad enough trying to find parking for 1 vehicle at the hostel, never mind two….
