West to the Kimberleys

Greetings from the far west – we are now on WA time, 4 hours behind NZ and the same as Singapore and KL. This might make sense in Perth a mere 3000km away, but up here only 550km west of Katherine its really silly – we’ve gone from sunrise at about 6:45am in the Territory to 5:30am here! Its dark by 5:30 too of course. They are having a big debate about daylight savings here, but the debate they need to have is around why the whole state is on the same time zone – its a bit Chinese if you ask me!

As you can see by the sudden abundance of photos – we have the laptop back – it wasn’t cheap but at least it works now! Although I am still now stuck with the problem of finding somewhere to login! Preferably air-conditioned – the other downside with the time zone is that I was sweating hanging out the washing at 8:30am!

We are now on a timetable – we have to be out of Exmouth by the time the school holidays start at the end of September – apparently the whole f Perth, well at least those with children, go there in the school holidays, as its 30C there and 21C in Perth at the moment I can quite understand that – I cant believe that in NZ we would count 21C as a sumer’s day! Once we make it to Perth we may look for jobs just for the novelty of having a roof over our heads.

Got to say the country around here is a lot more spectacular than the driving across Queensland was there are hills and rivers and everything! Looking forward to driving the Gibb River Road down to Broome and then heading down the coast for some hopefully good snorkelling and swimming.
