Settling down in Austraila
November 12th, 2007 | by lissie |Its looking like we are going to be here for a while and we are wondering if its time to replaced our dearly loved truckie as he has got himself a bit of a drinking problem around town. The diesel mileage is dramatically worse doing short hops around town so we are thinking he might have to go for something smaller which would a) fit into a parking space and b) have air conditioning!
One of the issues with being new to a country is that it can be hard to get finance for buying a big item like a vehicle. Doesn’t matter what assets you have overseas, here you are unemployed and with no credit history, which is worse than having no credit history! In US the market is more sophisticated and you don’t even need to leave home with services such as Online Auto Loans but I am yet to find something similar in Australia.

Sounds like a business opportunity to me. Perhaps you can bring to your new country the inovations of the states?

Debo, I think one of the interesting things about moving countries is yes you do get ideas about stuff that happens in one country but not another. Thanks Lynn - its not funny when diesel is A$1.40 / litre (sorry I don’t know gallons!)
