A new type of Social Networking - Blogging Zoom
November 13th, 2007 | by lissie | I’ve mentioned before that I have been struggling to understand social networking. I guess one of the problems is that I’ve never really comfortable doing the whole social networking thing in the real-world so the idea of having virtual friends didn’t catch on with me initially. While researching the topic though I found a site that had just launched called Blogging Zoom It has two key points of difference:
- it not only allows, but encourages you to submit your own blog posts; and
- it ONLY allows blog posts: no big news feeds, no big commercial websites - so you aren’t competing against the professionals.
Most social networking sites won’t allow you to recommend your own work - mainly to stop spammers but its frustrating for those of us who are starting off on our web empire. The brilliant twist with Blogging Zoom is that when you submit a post (and it can be anyone’s not just your own) you are required to write a paragraph about the post - this stops the spammers as its too much work, and it also means that most posts submitted have a bit more content than the 1 or 2 paragraphs of a lot of blog posts. Also when people zoom a post by clicking on the “zoom” word in the little box in this post (hint, hint!) you can see who has “zoomed” you so you start to build up network of people who like similar posts.
The only downside I can see with Blogging Zoom so far is that at this stage there are an awful lot more posts about internet marketing than anything else. Hopefully soon though there will be a lot more interesting stuff in Travel and other categories.

Hi Lissie,
Dur to the fact that our main source of exposure is Court’s site and the fact that he has a huge base of blog related readers it has caused that the first to jump on the wagon are this blog related bloggers.
This will eventually flip to the other side as more non blogging related bloggers learn of the service. Remember less than 3% of blogs are about this subject the large % are just like your blog about quality non blogging content.
One of the ways to even the playing field faster is to submit other blogs you like that do not have how to blogging content so they also learn of the service.
Please just keep submitting your great content so we can get more readers exposed to your wonderful Blog.

Thanks for visiting Vic - yes I realise that the non-blog blogs (!) will follow - good point about being able to submit other’s content!

Hi Lissie
I came across your blog after following your comments on Caroline’s about Codrut’s coaching programme. I like what you’re doing here and was interested in your Blogging Zoom post. I did a bit of lurking around there, are the traffic to my blog is pretty abysmal at the moment and I’m looking at ways of increasing it. You’ve a really eclectic blog! Lots of neat stuff!

Thanks Heather - I was a bit worried about that comment at Carolyn’s - I didn’t want to come across as real negative - but I have been burnt in the past! I like the thought of this being a eclectic blog - I tend to think of it as random! Comes from not knowing niche from a keyword when you start!
I like your blog - in New Zealand we would call a cottage a “batch” or “crib” The photos are gorgeous!

I know how you feel Lissie, I’m a bit of a lone wolf as well. Still, I’ve found BZ and the EntreCard useful in coming out of my shell, though I do have to hold back at times as I can be rather blunt.
